Talented young Bath CC and Beechen opening batter joins Somerset Cricket Academy

Sam Price, a 14-year-old opening batter that has already represented Bath Cricket Club’s 2nd XI has joined the Somerset Cricket Academy.

Sam has been a pupil at Beechen Cliff School since Year 8 and has showcased his talent and dedication on the cricket pitch since joining Bath CC four years ago. Sam has also formed an important part of the club’s U13 and U15 teams that have won County and National titles over the last two seasons.

With an impressive top score of 110 not out for Somerset U13s against Cornwall U13s in 2023, where he opened and carried his bat, Sam has regularly demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure and lead from the front. In 2024, when Sam was just 13, he became the youngest ever player to tour Sri Lanka with the Somerset Cricket Academy.

Commenting on joining the Somerset Cricket Academy, Sam Price said:

“I started playing for Somerset with the Under 10s and have played up through the age groups. When I was 10 and 11, I was involved with the early Pathway and then Under 12s. When I played for the Under 13s, I got my first century against Cornwall and then the following winter I went out to Sri Lanka with the Academy, which was a great experience.

Joining the Academy is what I’ve been working towards for the last couple of years but I wasn’t really expecting to get onto it so soon. Now it’s about looking forward and trying to progress as far as possible. My aim now is to become a Somerset professional cricketer.”

Rob Maggs, Director of Cricket at Bath Cricket Club said:

“A place on the Somerset Cricket Academy is richly deserved, as Sam is one of a group ofdedicated and hard working young cricketers that we have rising up the ranks at the club. After touring Sri Lanka two winters in a row with the Academy and playing up two age groups at County Age Group (CAG) level, he is showing that he relishes new challenges for both club and County, which is an important characteristic in a young cricketer with a desire to become a professional. As we do with all our young cricketers, we will ensure Sam is given enough chances in senior cricket this coming summer to support his development and his future aspirations.”
