Bath CC 1st XI v Lansdown CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI faced local rivals, Lansdown CC 1st XI at Combe Park on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bath quickly built a century opening partnership before Jack Scrivens went for a run a ball 54. Jason Marshall then joined Brad Porteous and this pair put on a further 82 for the second wicket before Marshall went for 36. Sam Young (16) departed before Porteous brought up an excellent century, and although he was out soon after for 110, two batters, Harry Ellison (38 off 25 balls) and James Arney (25 not out off 14 balls) kept the momentum going to take Bath passed 300, eventually closing their innings on 302-7.
Lansdown’s reply started badly when opener Max Trotman was trapped LBW by Porteous with only seven on the board. There was a small rebuild before fellow opener, Noah Davis was the second wicket to fall, leaving Lansdown 48-2. Despite a run a ball 50 from number three, Praneel Choughule and 44 from number six, Sam Pearce, Lansdown continued to lose wickets in regular intervals and in the end came unstuck against the off spin of Louis Brown (3-57) to fall 87 runs short as they were bowled out for 215 in the 43rd over. Bath remain in second place to Bridgwater CC following this win.
Bath CC 2nd XI v Brislington CC 1st XI
Bath CC 2nd XI played hosts to Brislington CC 1st XI at North Parade on Saturday. Bath’s stand in skipper, Charlie Rustell won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good wicket. Unfortunately the inform Campbell McKegg had to retire hurt for just six with blurred vision, and when Kester Mosely (3) and Bill Simmons (4) swiftly followed, Bath found themselves 44-2. Henry Allen (53) and Charlie Rustell (38) started the rebuild, and when both these batters were out, Ryan Kochupurakal (57) continued the momentum with the lower order to take the score up to 216-8 in Bath’s 40 overs.
Brislington’s reply initially started well but opening bowler Will Ireland first removed Will Thomas (13), to leave the Bristol side 24-1 and then as a second wicket partnership was just starting to get going, Ireland struck again, bowling fellow opener, Charlie Brain for 19. As Brislington moved into the 90s with just two wickets down, the match looked well balanced, but the introduction of medium pace from Kester Mosely (2-27) and the off spin of Amit Nathani (3-26) proved a game changer, as Bath ran through the middle to lower order to leave the away team 114-8 before eventually being bowled out for 146, 70 runs short of the Bath total. This win moves Bath 2nd XI to second in the league.
Bath CC 3rd XI v Midsomer Norton CC 2nd XI
Bath’s 3rd XI lost against Midsomer Norton CC 2nd XI away on Saturday. Bath won the toss and elected to bat, but lost skipper, Thiaan Aspeling (7) when there was only 24 on the board. This brought Ben Da Costa to the crease who partially started a rebuild before opener, Sam Barnes went for 17. De Costa then went on to make 32 before he was trapped in front, and contributions from Alan Alex (20) and Chandana Kariyapperumage (31) helped Bath post an under par, 189-7 from their 40 overs.
Despite losing two early wickets to opening bowler, Sam Barnes (2-41), Norton’s response was led by an excellent 97 from opener, Martin Cox which ensured that the home team stayed ahead of the run rate to coast to victory in the 38th over and win by six wickets. Bath 3rd XI remain mid-table in the Second Division of the Bristol & District League.
Bath CC 4th XI v Bristol Aces CC 1st XI
Bath CC 4th XI faced Bristol Aces CC 1st XI at the Brownsword Ground on Saturday. Bath skipper, Scott Sandford won the toss and asked the Aces to bat first, and although there was an early breakthrough to leave the Bristol side 18-1, the second wicket partnership then plundered 147 runs with number three, Mithun Murali Girija hitting a run-a-ball 107 and skipper Tom Mathew hitting 54. There was then a fight back from Bath’s bowlers with Genevieve Donaldson returning to take 3-43, Mathan Balasubramaniyan picking up 3-30 and Harley Sandford bowling a great spell of 3-13 as the Aces were all out for 269 with just one ball of their 40 overs to bowl.
Bath’s reply was led by a rapid 99 off just 50 balls from opener, Harley Sandford, but when he was out with 132 on the board Bath struggled to build any match winning partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 232 in the 38th over, to lose by 37 runs.
