After joining The Lansdown Cricket Club Big Bike Ride 2025 team, our Director of Cricket, Rob Maggs (‘Maggsy’) has launched his personal fundraising campaign today (13th February 2025) with the aim to personally raise £10,000 for Dorothy House and RUHX. The Big Bike Ride 2025 will play an important part in Lansdown Cricket Club’s 200 for 200 Campaign, raising £200k for their 200 years of history - all in aid of local charities.
As part of The Big Bike Ride, Rob will be part of an 18 man team, who have set their sights on cycling 850km over four days - cycling to every Test Match Cricket Ground in England. Every penny raised from the ride, and through a variety of other fundraising activities, will be donated to local charities - primarily Dorothy House Hospice Care and RUHX, the official charity of the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Starting at the Riverside Stadium in Durham on Tuesday 27th May 2025, the team will ride to Headingly (Leeds), Old Trafford (Manchester), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lords Cricket Ground (St John’s Wood, London), The Kia Oval (Kennington, London), The Utilita Bowl (Southampton), before heading north and back to Combe Park, the home of Lansdown CC on Friday 30th May. The team will ride a relay with each rider taking on over 150km in the saddle each day.
Rob Maggs, Director of Cricket at Bath CC said:
“I’m really looking forward to being part of The Big Bike Ride team and supporting Lansdown’s 200 for 200 Campaign. As many Bath CC and Lansdown CC members know 2024 was a particularly challenging time for myself and my family, and since losing my wife, Jess to cancer in November, I have had my sights firmly set on a way of giving back to both Dorothy House and the RUH, who provided us with such amazing care and support. My aim is to raise £10,000 towards Lansdown’s 200 for 200 Campaign, and I’m really looking forward to working with the team and the club to achieve this.
Jess was such an incredibly positive person, and although there is much personal sadness in the fact that she would have turned 45 today, I think it’s important to continue her positive attitude by launching my fundraising campaign on her birthday – as both charities have been so close to both of our hearts.”
Scott Longstaff, Chair of Lansdown Cricket Club, added:
“We’re so delighted that Rob has joined The Big Bike Ride 2025 team. We’re not a team of seasoned racing cyclists that would find a challenge like this a doddle - it will be a serious challenge for a group of very inexperienced riders! Having Rob on board is massive – not just because of his energy and passion for the cause … but he’s a bloody good bike rider too and his experience will be invaluable in the team.
We have 18 riders lined up and only three have taken on a multi-day challenge before. For seven of the team, it’s their first time on a road bike. What they lack in experience, the team make up for it in desire to succeed, to work harder than they’ve ever done before and raise as much money as possible for charity. By the time we set out in May, we think the team will have racked up over 6,000 miles of training and over 500 hours in the saddle!”
Maggsy is the heartbeat of our club and loved by all. Let’s support him through this journey and donate to the cause here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/rob-maggs-10000?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=socpledgemobile&utm_content=rob-maggs-10000&utm_campaign=post-pledge-mobile&utm_term=zy9pXAVdB
