Bath CC’s young pace bowler Joe Heywood represents England U19s in Youth ODI Tri-Series
Bath Cricket Club’s 17 year old pace bowler, Joe Heywood has represented England U19s in their Youth ODI Tri-Series against Ireland and Scotland this week, after impressing for Somerset CCC 2nd XI and Bath 1st XI this season.
The Beechen Cliff Year 13 pupil who studies PE, Biology and Psychology, opened the bowling for England U19s against Scotland U19s on Saturday 14th September, and then against Ireland U19s on Monday 16th September, picking up 4-36.
Heywood has been in the Somerset Pathway since he was 11 years old, and made his 1st XI debut for Bath CC last season, aged just 16. This season for Bath, Heywood has really shone, picking up 29 wickets for the 1st XI with a best bowling performance of 5-23 against Bridgwater CC. Heywood was also clocked this year at Loughborough University bowling 83 mph, which is the sort of speed professional opening bowlers will reach for their County or Country.
On making his debut for England U19s’ Joe Heywood said:
“It’s been a great honour to be selected, and then to represent England U19s over the last week. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, and my parents for helping me to get to this position. After representing Somerset 2nd XI and being part of Somerset’s Metro Bank ODI squad this August, my aspirations are to become a professional cricketer for Somerset and then hopefully to represent England.”
Rob Maggs, Director of Cricket at Bath CC, said:
“We’ve been really impressed by Joe’s development over the past 12 months, and taking almost 30 wickets for the 1st XI in all competitions this summer illustrates his progress for the club. As we do with a number of young County prospects, we will continue to work closely with Somerset CCC to ensure that Joe will be supported by his club with both coaching and appropriate match play, to ensure that he maximises his talent.”
