Bath vs Potterne match report
1 August 2021
A fantastic win for the 1st XI at North Parade as they beat Potterne by 55 runs.
After being asked to bat first Bath suffered the early loss of Brad Porteous, and fellow opener Tim Rouse then departed for 29 with the score on 41. Kester Moseley provided stubborn resistance at number 3 to see off the opening bowlers and was joined by Paul Muchall for a 52 run partnership before Moseley was unlucky to be run out from a straight drive by Muchall which was deflected on to the stumps by the bowler. 3 more wickets followed to leave the innings precariously positioned on 140/6 with 10 overs remaining. However, Kyle Hopper joined Muchall at the crease and the two of them combined to change the momentum of the game with a 76 run partnership taking the final total to 217/7 from 45 overs - Muchall was dismissed off the penultimate ball for 86, with Hopper 41*.
In reply the Bath bowlers did a fantastic job as a unit, never allowing any substantial partnerships to develop and constantly chipping away with wickets. After an early wicket for Muchall was backed up by another for George Axtell, Porteous then came on to take a couple of wickets and the game could have gone either way with Potterne on 102/4. It was Rouse who swung the game in Bath's favour with a fantastic spell, claiming 3 wickets in 5 overs and ending any hopes for the visitors. Muchall and Porteous combined to clean up the last 3 wickets as Potterne were dismissed for 162.
Bath 217/7 (45) - Muchall 86, Hopper 41*
Potterne 162 (39.1) - Porteous 4/33, Rouse 3/30, Muchall 2/17
