Bath vs Hanham match report
22 June 2021
Jake's match report
The fours played Hanham this Saturday and were optimistic after winning 7 games on the bounce. After a solid start by the Hanham openers, building to 45-0 off 9, the suffocating bowling of Thiaan and Chloe, mixed with some excellent fielding brought the score back to 85-2 off 20.
Unfortunately, things went down hill from there and Hanham accelerated, with a big partnership developing, including some massive blows that led to some lengthy ball finding missions and a “9/10” trip over the fence by third man… As Hanham reached 251 off 40, Bath knew the task in hand would be tough but were still confident of getting close after a similarly large run chase last week.
But from a continuation of the Hanham batting performance, the opening bowlers bowled with skill and accuracy, with the left armer getting significant lateral movement.
After Hanham got a three wicket maiden in the third over, it was a real struggle for Bath, and even with a solid contribution from Thiaan for forty, It was a task too hard and we got bowled for 74.
Even though today was difficult, we still have a healthy lead in first place, and are looking to bounce back against Barry Gurney away next week. It was a tough lesson learned, but the spirit and togetherness of the fourths is certain to help us pull through.
