Bath CC U15's capped off a great summer by winning the Bath & District League Cup against Winsley CC U15’s, to finish the season League Champions, League cup winners and County champions!
In a thrilling contest Winsley won the toss and elected to bowl, hoping to restrict Bath to a manageable total.
Despite losing three early wickets, Bath put up a solid fight and managed to score 116 runs in their 20 overs. The standout performance came from skipper, Fred Stappard, who played a crucial knock of 49 runs, just falling short of a half-century. He was well-supported by Sam Simmons, who contributed 27 runs. Together, they put on a vital partnership of over 50 runs, helping Bath build a defendable target.
Right from the start of Winsley’s reply the home side struggled to build momentum against Bath's bowling attack. George Warden spearheaded the attack, taking 2-8 from his three overs. However, Luke Welsh was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-11 in his three overs, including a crucial catch that swung the momentum in Bath’s favour. The rest of the bowling unit chipped in with disciplined performances, ensuring Winsley was kept under pressure throughout their innings as they were bowled out for just 73, to lose by 43 runs.
Mark Watts, Community & Junior Manager, Bath Cricket Club said:
“I’m delighted for this group of lads, as I’ve been personally involved with them since the U13 age group, and enjoyed watching them develop as cricketers and I look forward to now see them transition into U19 and senior cricket at Bath. I would like to say a special thank you to Winsley for hosting the match, and to all the parents for their support throughout the season. It has been a fantastic effort from all involved.”
