23 June 2024

Bath CC U13’s & U15’s both picked up the Somerset County Cup for their respective age groups on Sunday.

In the morning of the Somerset County Cup Finals Day at Cleeve Cricket Club, Bath U13’s faced Glastonbury U13’s and after winning the toss and electing to field, Bath struck early to leave Glastonbury 9-1. Despite two double figure scores from the Glastonbury batters, the Bath bowlers continued to put the pressure on to regularly take wickets to leave Glastonbury 79-8 at the end of their 20 overs. In particular, Will Blackmore (2-13) and Alby Jackman (2-8) bowled well.

In response, Bath made short work of chasing down Glastonbury’s total in just 12 overs with Blackmore (21*) and Jackman (19) once again demonstrating their all-round skills to take Bath to victory by 7 wickets. Bath U13’s will now move on to the regional stage of this National T20 Competition.

In the afternoon, Bath U15’s faced Taunton St Andrews U15’s, and after winning the toss, elected to bat first. Although a number of batters in the top order struggled to get going, Sam Price hit a steady 26, and then the Bath middle and lower order really fired through Peter Biggs (20), Sam Simmons (15) and Alex Moss (30*) to propel the Bath total up to 137-7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Taunton St Andrews found themselves immediately under pressure, as George Warden (2-8) clean bowled two key top order batters. The Bath bowlers kept the pressure on while picking up regular wickets to ensure that Taunton continued to slip behind the run rate, as Sam Simmons (2-21) and Louis Russell (1-7) removed the rest of the top five batters to leave Taunton 65-5 with a lot of work to do. As the lower order looked for the big hits, wickets began to tumble and Taunton St Andrews were eventually bowled out for 87, for Bath to win by 51 runs and pick up the County U15 Cup. Bath U15’s will now move on to the regional stage of this National T20 Competition.
