Bath CC launches new Sunday programme for young cricketers across BANES
Bath Cricket Club has just launched a new Sunday Cricket Programme for all young cricketers aged 6-16 from across BANES, introducing players to the fundamentals of cricket, and supporting their transition into hardball cricket in a safe and enjoyable environment.
The three dedicated age group sessions, which take place from 9am-1.30pm every Sunday in Bath CC’s state-of-the art indoor cricket centre are led by the club’s community coaches, Josh Norgrove and Matt Tomes-Smith. Josh is a former Wiltshire County youth cricketer who now represents Bath’s 2nd XI, and Matt has experience of running community cricket initiatives, such as Chance to Shine and Dynamos for Surrey CCC and Middlesex CCC.
With three structured age groups (Year 5 and below, Years 6-8, and Years 9-11) and tailored training, all the young cricketers will show a significant improvement in their skills and confidence by the end of the Sunday programme.
Mark Watts, Community & Junior Manager, Bath Cricket Club said:
“This is the first time we have ever swung open our doors to the whole cricketing community on a Sunday to provide a dedicated programme for young cricketers across BANES. Importantly, our new programme provides more opportunities for players at every stage of their development to enjoy the game in a fun setting.
Our sessions are divided by age groups to cater directly to different skill levels and ensure focused attention oneach player. We kick off the morning with a ‘Fundamentals and Fun’ session for those in Year 5 and below, and then we switch to a ‘Younger Hardball’ session for those in Years 6-8, and finally we conclude with an ‘Advanced Training and Competitive Play’ session for those in Years 9-11.
We’re very keen to build interest and momentum quickly to expand the program in the future and engage even more young players from across our community.”
