Ilminster Match Report
The second team were not able to build on their outstanding victory over Winterbourne this weekend after suffering a disappointing loss at Ilminster.
Despite the spectre of wides rearing their ugly head again (28 in a 31.5 over innings), the bowling was very good on the whole, with Ilminster dismissed for 116. Matt Cadywould’s 4-28 now sees him top the Prem Two Bristol/Somerset wicket takers, and he was backed up by Louis Brown (2-32), Jack Scrivens (2-19), James Arney (1-5) and Will Arney (1-26). Scriv also had a “field” day, taking four catches in the innings.
Despite having a modest total to chase, some irresponsibly expansive shots from the majority of the top six left Bath in a precarious position in the chase. A seventh wicket partnership between Kester Moseley (32) and Will Arney (19) had begun to pull the tie back in Bath’s favour, but when both were dismissed in quick succession, the task became more difficult, especially considering that Rob Maggs had stepped in at the eleventh hour to play following a COVID-enforced drop out from the first team. Sadly, despite the lower order’s best efforts, the task left for them was too much, and Bath fell 12 short.
116 could have been slightly less in an ideal world, but was always a target that should have been chased- a lesson in application and game awareness that the batting unit will need to learn quickly if we are to consistently secure favourable results in this division.
