Alex Woodward Becomes Head Groundsman at Bath Cricket Club

Bath Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Alex Woodward has been appointed the Club’s new Head Groundsman. Alex has been an integral part of the grounds team for four seasons, and his dedication has been invaluable to the club.

Alex has recently received a merit for his level two sports turf management course and has now begun his level three course which will span the next two years. As part of the grounds team, Alex has already played an important part in delivering exceptional playing surfaces for all of the sides, and in 2023, the pitches at North Parade were ranked by the West of England Premier League umpires as the best in the league.

Scott Sandford, Chairman of Bath Cricket Club said:

“We are excited that Alex has taken on the role of Head Groundsman, as he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to maintaining top-quality pitches. His passion for cricket has greatly contributed to the high standards of our facilities. We are confident that under his leadership, our grounds will continue to be among the best in the country."

Alex expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, by adding:

"I have hugely enjoyed the last four years at the club, and I feel honoured to now become the Head Groundsman as it is part recognition of the quality of the pitches our team has prepared over this time. I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with the team to ensure our pitches are of the highest standard across the region.

Nobody can predict the summer weather, but our ability to adapt quickly as a team to what the weather throws at us, has really helped us to deliver consistent playing surfaces for the club throughout the season.”
