Bath CC 4th XI v Whitchurch CC 2nd XI
Bath CC 4th XI played hosts to Whitchurch 2nd XI at the Brownsword Ground on Saturday.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, the Bath openers, David Pippett and Dan Hope steadily built a solid platform against a challenging opening spell of bowling. As the first and second change bowlers came on to bowl the Bath batters really accelerated passing 150 for no wicket before Pippett went for 75. Hope (88*) then batted effectively with number four Thiaan Aspeling, who hit a quick fire 34 not out off just 22 balls to help take Bath up to a very competitive 223-2 from their 40 overs.
Whitchurch’s response stuttered with the loss of Joe Andrews for 9, but then fellow opener Fergus Bowen and Craig Brown added 69 before Bowen went for a fine 58. Brown (35) was then brilliantly caught by Alex Moss off the bowling of Jack Pippett (2-51) to leave the away side 120-3. This soon became 133-5, but although Whitchurch still had a lot of work to do, they kept up with the run rate and with just two overs to go the match was still in the balance. But, two excellent overs from George Warden and Thiaan Aspeling (2-43) ensured that Bath won by 7 runs to pick up 18 points.
