Bath CC 4th XI v Brislington CC 3rd XI

Bath CC 4th XI won their closely fought match against Brislington CC 3rd XI on Saturday.

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, Bath started positively racing to 29 before Dan Hope (9) was bowled. The home side then took their score past 50 before Sam Simmons (14) was also bowled to leave Bath 55-2. Brislington’s first change bowlers then started to build the pressure and when they removed opener Thiaan Aspeling for 39, then Allan Alex (12) and Peter Biggs (8) soon departed, Bath had slipped to 118-5 with a lot of work still to do. But skipper David Pippett and Mike Roe (15) then built an important 64 run partnership, and when Roe went, Pippett continued to bat positively before being bowled in the last over for an important 77 as Bath reached 207-7 from their 40 overs.

Brislington’s reply started positively, but wickets started to tumble as opening bowler, Aspeling (4-28) picked up four wickets in a great spell of seam bowling. A rain delay then reduced Brislington’s target to 187 from 36 overs, and on returning to the wicket, the away side fought back through Iain Locke (32) and skipper, Neil Peacock (32), but when young bowlers Ollie Johnson (1-7) and Jack Pippett (2-25) removed both these batters, Bath bowled tightly and caught well to win by 8 runs, as Brislington finished on 178-9.
