Bath CC 3rd XI v Knowle CC 2nd XI

After gaining promotion to the first division last week, Bath CC 3rd XI travelled to Bristol to play Knowle CC 2ndXI, with a chance of beating Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 2nd XI to the title.

After being asked to bat first, Bath started solidly through Bill Simmons (33) and Luke Stringer (23) before Simmons departed to leave the away side 48-1. Bath then slipped to 106-5 before Innes Pierce (26), Mohamed Hamza (29) and John Bean (45*) batted positively together to take the away side up to 211-7 from their 40 overs.

Knowle’s reply was hampered by an early breakthrough, as Joe Prescott (2-25) bowled Austin Empson for a duck to leave the home side 3-1. Despite Conor McNama (15) and Ashley Hall (34) rebuilding with a 50 partnership when both of these batters were removed by young seamer, Peter Biggs (3-28), Knowle’s batting began to crumble, slipping from 53-2 to 97-9. With only four overs to be bowled, and Bath needing the last wicket to stand a change of winning the league, Biggs bowled Matt Daggett (8) to win the match for Bath by 93 runs. With Bath 3rd XI picking up a full 20 points from this victory, they won the B&D Second Division title by just one point over Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 2nd XI.
