Bath CC 3rd XI v Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 2nd XI

Bath CC 3rd XI moved to the top of Division 2 of the Bristol & District Cricket League after recording a six wicket home victory against Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 2nd XI on Saturday.

After winning the toss, the Bath skipper asked the visitors to bat first, and this proved a good decision when Bristol West Indian Phoenix lost both openers to the left arm pace of Sam Barnes (3-27). Bath then continued to bowl tightly, and although there were a number of batters that passed 20, nobody went on to build a significant score, as the away side were bowled out for 165 with one over to be bowled as spin bowlers, John Bean (4-48) and Innes Pierce (1-20) combined well to pick up many of the lower order wickets.

Bath’s reply started very solidly through openers, Sam Price (36) and George Axtell (46) who almost posted a century partnership, but Price was run out to leave Bath 99-1. Although Axtell soon followed, Bath’s batters combined well to take their team over the line with just five balls to be bowled. Bath now lead Shirehampton CC 1st XI by six points at the top of Division 2.
