Bath CC 3rd XI v Bishopston CC 2nd XI

Bath CC 3rd XI travelled to Bishopston on Saturday to play a rain reduced 30 over match.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Bath openers Bill Simmons (17) and Sam Price started well putting on 26 for the first wicket before Simmons was smartly stumped. Price and Hamish Bell then added 61 before Bell went for a run a ball 32. Although two wickets quickly fell, Price continued to play the anchor role as Tim Scott smashed a quick 22, and when Price was out for a hugely important 48, George Axtell (21) kept the scoreboard ticking to reach a very competitive 185-8 from their 30 overs.

Bishopston’s reply soon slipped to 26-3 as Tim Scott (2-26) and Joe Prescott (1-16) set the tone with a fine opening bowling spell and Ben Harper ran out the home sides opener, Matthew Morgan (12). Bishopston batters, Richard Boroughs (26) and Alex Morgan (39) then rebuilt, but when these two were removed by the spin of Charlie Pritchard (1-17) and Innes Pierce (2-15), Bishopston’s innings never really recovered and the home side were eventually bowled out in the 29th over for 148, still 38 runs short. As a result of this win, Bath 3rd XI are now second in the Bristol & District Second Division, just 7 points short of the top position.
