Bath CC 2nd XI v Brislington CC 1st XI

Bath CC 2nd XI bounced back from their narrow loss last week by beating Brislington CC 1st XI at North Parade on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first, Bath lost Campbell McKegg early when there was only 7 runs on the board, but number three, Bill Simmons (18) batted well with opener, Josh Norgrove to take the Bath score steadily up to 67 from 21 overs before Simmons was trapped in front. Norgrove soon followed for an impressive 48, and although a number of batters reached double figures, Bath continued to lose wickets regularly, and despite a run a ball 22 from Spencer Gammon, the home side were bowled out in the 47th over of the match for what seemed, an under par 157.

Brislington’s reply got off to a great start with the openers notching up a fifty partnership in less than ten overs, and with just a hundred required to win in 40 overs, the away team looked in a very strong position. But the introduction of seamer, Spencer Gammon turned the match on its head as he removed Max Trotman (28), Josh Whitemore (1) and skipper, Chris Munden (1) in his first three overs. Bowling from the other end, Campbell McKegg (2-26) removed two other Brislington batters to leave the away side 82-5. The match was now very much in the balance, but the combination of off spin, from skipper Will Arney (1-14) and seam from Dave Ford (3-20) bowled out Brislington for 126 to win by 31 runs. Bath picked up 20 points from this win.
