Bath CC 1st XI v Burbage & Easton Royal CC, Wilts 1st XI

Bath 1st XI was frustrated on Saturday when heavy rain abandoned their run chase against Burbage & Easton Royal CC, Wilts 1st XI.

After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Bath struck early when James Arney (2-37) bowled Crofton Keyes (8) to leave the home side 12-1. Skipper, David Cope (38) and Herb Berridge (24) then took the score up to 69, but the home side then lost three wickets for seven runs as they slipped to 76-4. This, however, brought ex Somerset allrounder, Peter Trego to the crease and alongside Dellon Peiris these two batters built a 137 partnership before Trego was caught off the bowling of Josh Sutton for an excellent 81. Peiris (58) then batted well with Adam Ball (31) to take the Burbage score up to 261-7 from their 50 overs.

Bath’s reply started positively with openers Jack Scrivens (17*) and Aidan Cahill (15*) taking the score up to 37 without loss off the first five overs before heavy rain hit to abandon the match. As Bath 1st XI only picked up 9 points from this abandoned match, a Bridgwater CC 1st XI win has now taken them to the top of the West of England Premier Cricket League, leading Bath now by 10 points.
