Bath CC 1st XI v Brentwood CC 1st XI – National Club Championship Semi-Final

Bath 1st XI travelled to Brentwood CC in Essex for their ECB National Club Championship Semi-Final on Sunday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bath openers, Ben Wells and Ben Church made a positive start, racing to 62 in just 10 overs before Wells went for an excellent half century. Despite losing Harry Ellison (5) shortly after, Bath’s middle order all played key roles with Church (48), with in particular, Sam Young (33), Charlie Brain (20) and skipper Tim Rouse (68*) all keeping up the momentum to close the Bath innings on a competitive 255-7 from their 40 overs.

Similarly the Brentwood openers raced off the blocks with some very positive batting before Aaron West was trapped in front by Josh Sutton in the 10th over to leave the home side 78-1. This soon became 101-2 as fellow opener Edward Ballard went for a rapid 64. At this point, with over 150 runs required from 25 overs, the match was still in the balance, but then ex Essex professional, Will Buttleman (77*) and Australian professional, Jordan Silk (73*) took the match away from Bath with an impressive 155 unbeaten match winning partnership to take the home side over the line in the 38th over.
